PAS needs 51% Malay votes to win

GUA MUSANG: As the Chinese and Orang Asli votes in Galas would cancel each other out, PAS would only need slightly more than half of Malay votes to win, former Perak state assembly speaker V Sivakumar said today.

“We have 1,889 Orang Asli and 2,317 Chinese voters. I feel that both would cancel each other out in that PAS will have most of the Chinese votes while BN most of the Orang Asli votes,” he told a press conference at the DAP headquarters in Kampung Baru this morning.

Sivakumar, the Perak DAP assistant secretary, said this would naturally shift the attention to the Malay votes.

“All PAS needs is to get 51% of the Malay votes to win,” said Sivakumar, who also expressed confidence that the majority of the 185 Indian voters in the constituency would also support PAS candidate Dr Zulkefli Mohamad.

Selangor state assembly speaker Teng Chang Khim said he was confident that PAS would retain the seat.

He believed that Chinese support would increase and that this would tip the scale for PAS to keep the seat.

He also said that DAP was launching a campaign to distribute pamphlets on the manhandling of activists of the “Malaysians for Beng Hock” group last Saturday.
