Safeguard public confidence, Kedah MB tells colleagues

SHAH ALAM: Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak has warned Pakatan Rakyat leaders not to take for granted public confidence in their respective government adminstrations.
He said it was now increasingly vital that leaders are alert to Umno-Barisan Nasional’s scaled up efforts to discredit the Pakatan regimes, in their run-up to the 13th general election.
Azizan said Umno-BN was aware that the opposition’s success in 2008 general election was because of the unity among the coalition partners.
“They believe this to be the secret. Now they are using the mainstream media to drive a wedge and break up this united front,” he said at the Pakatan Rakyat’s Menteri Besars and Chief Minister’s convention here today.
Also present were Penang CM Lim Guan Eng, Kelantan MB Nik Aziz Nik Mat and Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim. With them were deputy PAS president Nasharuddin Mat Isa and secretary-general Mustafa Ali.
Slamming the media ‘spinning’ of facts and reports, Azizan said the mainstream media was the biggest culprit which worked at shaking public confidence in the Pakatan governments.
“They (media) are creating a situation of distrust and lack of confidence of the people towards us.
“We must all be alert to what is happening and defend public trust and confidence in the states under our rule.
“The current environment on the ground is proof that people are comfortable in Pakatan-ruled states, compared to under BN.
