SIBU: Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud has adviced his people not to get emotionally carried away by groups and individuals who tried to “brainwash” and incite them to hate the government.
He said that it was vital that the people focus on the bread-and-butter issues.
“When you dwell on personal matters and think about things that are not related to your wellbeing, then you forget about the bread and butter issues like planning further development of the state and country,” he said.
Taib was alluding to the opposition which was constantly discrediting the government’s efforts to promote development.
Describing development as “the lifeline of the nation”, he urged Sarawakians “not to take this for granted”.
“Don’t ever take development for granted. Be careful about people who try to brainwash you… the opposition is always highlighting shortcomings. But it is not working on bringing betterment to the people.
“Until now, the opposition has not made known what it could do for the country.
“So be careful who you choose to serve and look after your wellbeing,” he said when officiating at a seminar on development and leadership for state community leaders here.
