KUALA LUMPUR: The Whistleblower Protection Act, a key legislative initiative under the Government Transformation Programme’s (GTP) National Key Results Area (NKRA) to aggressively tackle corruption, is set to come into force from Dec 15, it was announced today.

The Act was passed by Parliament in the middle of this year.

With this, Malaysia has honoured its obligations under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and will create conditions where there will be no tolerance and opportunity for corruption as well as encourage more people to come forward to report improper conducts and incidences of graft, according to a briefing by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here.

When tabling the Budget 20101 in Parliament in October last year, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak announced that a Whistleblower Protection Act would be formulated to encourage informers to expose corrupt practices and other misconducts.
