Khir Toyo’s ‘stature’ reason for RM1m bail, says AG

The Attorney-General today disclosed his reason in asking a RM1 million bail for Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo who was two days ago charged with fraud over two plots of land in Shah Alam.
“He’s a man of stature. He has held high office,” Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail told reporters at the court complex this morning after making an appearance in the equally high-profile trial of Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik who is charged with cheating the federal government in another land case.
Khir was the former Selangor mentri besar and state Umno chief.
The public prosecutor had stunned the court with his request. A high bail is usually asked for to make sure the accused does not flee his trial.
The Shah Alam Sessions Court however released the 45-year-old dentist on a reduced bail of RM750,000.
