Parliamentary panel wants six-month suspension for Anwar

A powerful legislative panel has recommended a six-month suspension from Parliament for Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over his Israel-APCO jibe earlier this year.

The recommendation was made by the House’s Rights and Privileges Committee in its report tabled in Parliament today.

The report is scheduled for debate on the final day of the current parliamentary session this Thursday as two days’ notice is needed for the motion to be tabled.

Among others, the committee’s report also said that it would recommend an “admonishment” for DAP chairman Karpal Singh for allegedly “insulting” panel chairman Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, who is also the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.

Karpal, the Bukit Gelugor MP, is one of the only two Pakatan Rakyat representatives in the committee.
