PAS’ prediction that BN will stage coup a lie, says Muhyiddin

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today described the statement by several PAS leaders, who predicted that the Barisan Nasional (BN) plans to seize power if the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) or opposition pact were to win the 13th general eleftion, as malicious, slanderous and a lie.

The Deputy Prime Minister said such statements were another example where PAS would always look for opportunities to create lies to discredit the BN government.

“This is malicious and prejudicial aimed at scaring the people,” he told reporters after officiating the ground-breaking ceremony for the Twin Creeks Malaysia Sdn Bhd solar panel factory at the Khantan Industrial Area, here.

PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar yesterday hinted the possibility of a coup occurring as a result of the reminder by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that the people should not vote for any other party except the BN.

Muhyiddin (picture), who is also the BN deputy chairman, said the result of the last general election proved that the BN respected the democratic process and accepted the decision made by the people.

He said the BN had lost several states and could accept the decision made through the democratic process and public election.

“Look at what had happened when we lost (several states)…we understood the decision that had been made. There was no question of a coup,” he said.

Muhyiddin said making slanders and lies were forbidden by Islam but such ‘rubbish’ statements were made by leaders of a party that championed the cause of Islam.

He said the opposition would always find an opportunity to discredit the government and show that the BN government was bad, but what was important was that the government understood.

“The people should know that PAS will always find an opportunity to create lies and criticise the government,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, commenting on the statement by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Azmin Ali that the Pakatan Rakyat would give autonomy to Sarawak if the opposition pact were given the mandate to form the federal government after the 13th general election, Muhyiddin said it was merely a ploy by the opposition.

“They will make various offers…this is a ploy by them. (They) will resort to anything to achieve their goal,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the people of Sarawak knew the deeds and contribution of the BN in developing the state for so long, the privileges enjoyed were based on the state and federal laws and constitutions. — Bernama
