Tenang By-Election May Not See BN-PAS Straight Fight

(Bernama) – The Tenang by-election may not see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS as a trade union leader is keen on contesting as an independent.

G.Sivanandan, 50, said today that he was offering himself as candidate for the by-election to represent some 800 plantation workers in Tenang constituency.

The National Union of Plantation Workers (NUPW) official who had been active here for 20 years claimed that he had strong support from plantation workers.

Tenang seat fell vacant with the death of BN state assemblyman Datuk Sulaiman Taha on Dec 17 due to blood infection and diabetes.

Nomination day for Tenang state by-election had been fixed for Jan 22 with polling on Jan 30.

Four oil palm plantations are in Tenang – Ladang North Labis, Ladang Sungai Labis, Ladang Voules and Ladang Bukit Datok.
