Apologise for insulting the Sultan, PAS tells Suhaimi

(Free Malaysia Today) – Selangor PAS commisioner Hasan Mohamed Ali said Sri Muda assemblyman, Suhaimi Shafei, should apologise for his ‘insulting’ remarks about the Sultan of Selangor.

The PAS leader said he will advise the PKR assemblyman to seek an apology from Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for questioning, in his blog, the ruler’s approval the new state secretary.

“Old people like me and the young ones have different temperament. However, I think the problem is not him but those fanning the issue such as the media,” said Hasan.

On Dec 30, Suhaimi published a statement pertaining to the Selangor state government’s spat over the appointment of former Jais director, Khusrin Munawi, as the state secretary.

The PKR assemblyman questioned the Sultan’s approval of the decision by the Chief Secretary to the Government to appoint Khusrin to the job without consulting Menteri Besar, Khalid Ibrahim.

Describing the sultan as a stern individual who would not back down, Suhaimi wrote: “Will he not back down even if he was wrong? I hope that being stern is not confused with being egotistical.”

His views drew flak from movements like the Gagasan Anti-Penyelewengan Selangor (GAPS), Selangor Bugis Association (SBA) and Perkasa who filed police reports against Suhami for allegedly insulting the ruler.
