PKR picks Rafizi to take on Khairy
If Khairy Jamaluddin agrees, he will lock horns with PKR strategy director in an intellectual duel on the national economy
(Free Malaysia Today) – The debate on the national economy will be on but it will be between PKR strategy director, Rafizi Ramli, and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin – that is, if the latter agrees to it.
PKR information chief Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty said the party has accepted the offer from Khairy to a debate on national economic issues.
Khairy has originally issued a formal invitation to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to deliberate specifically on “Methods to manage the nation’s economy”, but the latter had dismissed it.
Khairy threw the challenge to Anwar after the opposition leader dared Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to an intellectual duel on economic issues.
Following Najib’s refusal, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Aziz also threw his hat into the ring by challenging Anwar to a debate.
Muhammad said that Rafizi was a suitable candidate to take on Khairy as the former was a young leader with experience.
He said that the discourse, with its academic and intellectual approach, would enable the people to assess the issues for themselves.
Muhammad also said that the party was disappointed that Najib has turned down Anwar’s invitation to the debate focusing on Pakatan Rakyat’s 100-day reform programme.
“The offer from Anwar was made to enable the people to assess Najib’s claims that the programme is populist in nature and would bankrupt the nation,” he said in a press statement today.
