Mohd Azhar Ibrahim is BN’s candidate for Tenang

(Bernama) — Mohd Azhar Ibrahim, 39, former assistant district officer of the Rengit sub-district, is the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Tenang by-election on Jan 30.

His name was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and BN Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin before BN leaders and supporters at the Labis Umno Division headquarters here today.

Azhar, who was born in Labis, has been active in several local youth organisations.

His father, the late Ibrahim Daud, was a former assemblyman of Tenang and had been the head of the Labis Umno Division for several terms.

Nomination for the by-election is on Saturday.

PAS had named former teacher and Labis PAS Wanita chief Normala Sudirman, 38, as its candidate for the by-election, which is being held following the death of the three-term assemblyman, Datuk Sulaiman Taha of the BN, on Dec 17.

In the general election in 2008, Sulaiman retained the seat by beating Mohd Saim Siran of PAS with a majority of 2,492 votes.

The Tenang state constituency, located in the parliamentary constituency of Labis, has 14,753 voters, including 7,014 Malays (47.54%), 5,766 Chinese (39.08%) and 1,780 Indians (12.07%).
