Letter to IGP on People’s March Solidarity Against UMNO racism 27th February 2011

We in Hindraf firmly believe in the supremacy of the Malaysian Federal Constitution which provides for freedom of assembly under Article 10. Though we believe the Police Act is contrary and ultra virus the Federal Constitution, we have nevertheless submitted an application on 11th Feb 2011 for a Police permit in accordance with requirements of the Police Act.

Dear Sir

HINDRAF March Against UMNO racism 27th February 2011
Request for urgent meeting

I refer to the above matter.

I now write to seek an urgent meeting with your good self or any other senior designated officer so as to enable us to discuss the formalities for the march and to ensure we and our well wishers are protected from any untoward incident or violence of 3rd party agent provocateurs who may be likely employed by UMNO. It is our utmost concern and fear that UMNO is likely to engage its notorious 3 LINE and Pekida underworld gangs and its outsourced far right extremist wing Perkasa to cause trouble on the said day.

Our march is an entirely peaceful march.

Knowing how the Police have responded to such applications in the past, we now feel that you as Inspector General of Police have to personally get involved to ensure that the marchers are given the security they need. This is an entirely lawful act and as the senior-most public servant in the security service of the nation, you are personally obliged to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the march.

We believe this March will serve as an eye opener to the Malaysian public on the Institutionalised racism that is being practised here in Malaysia for the last 54 years. It is time that the UMNO-led Government discard all its racist policies which has created disharmony, mistrust, oppression and suppression of the minority communities in general and the Malaysian Indian community in particular.

We trust you will look into this request of ours on an urgent basis. Our representative Mr. Sambu Lingam can be contacted at 03-22825622 and will be available to meet you or your representative to finalise the necessary formalities and security for the marchers.

However if you refuse to do the necessary, we will hold you responsible for any untoward incident that may occur during the march and you will be liable for negligence in failing to provide protection to innocent civilians protesting peacefully on this first SOLIDARITY MARCH AGAINST UMNO RACISM.

Yours faithfully,

P.Waytha Moorthy

Chair
