Sarawak BN seeking action against Radio Free Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak Barisan Nasional wants to take action against independent radio station, Radio Free Sarawak, for carrying stories critical of Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Its youth chief Datuk Fadillah Yusof said they would be forming a legal team to study the radio station’s contents to see if these breached Malaysian laws.

“If they do, we’ll lodge a police report against them and we want relevant agencies to take action,” he told reporters here Monday.

Clare Rewcastle Brown, the sister-in-law of former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and Peter John Jaban, an Iban activist known as Papa Orang Utan to his listeners, went public last Wednesday saying they were responsible for the blog, Sarawak Report and radio station in a British tabloid report.

Sarawak Report and Radio Free Sarawak have been very critical of Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Fadillah, who is Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, conceded that that it would difficult to take action against the station as it was aired via the Internet.

He said the best way to counter baseless accusations put up in the Internet by the radio station, bloggers and the Opposition was to explain government policies and plans which put the people first.

“We need to inform the people that the facts have been twisted,” he said.
