EC advises opposition pact to register coalition

(Bernama) – The Election Commission (EC) has advised the opposition pact, comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use its logo in the coming general election.

EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said on Sunday, March 6 the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo.

“This has been going on since the last by-election. The logo of the parties which are not contesting is prohibited for use in the election campaign as provided under the Election Offences Act 1954.

“I advise the opposition parties to register the coalition with the Registrar of Societies. Then, they are to send the logo to the EC and only after that can they use the logo in their campaign,” he told reporters.

Ahmad was met by reporters while observing the process of tabulating the votes for the Kerdau by-election at the Temerloh Municipal Council’s Dewan Tun Razak.

Wan Ahmad said that if the opposition parties continued to do so it would create problems for the EC and the police.

He was commenting on the action by DAP and PKR, which were not contesting in the Kerdau by-election, but had been putting up their respective party logo, during the election campaign.
