Ministry Still Studying Publications Act In Relation To Online Media

(Bernama) – KUALA LUMPUR — The Home Ministry is in the early stages of discussing a review of the effectiveness of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984, including the offence of abusing print media content online, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said this effort was important and timely as the act had to be relevant in the context of maintaining public order and security.

“The government has never imposed control on online media with the use of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984,” he said in a written reply to Teresa Kok Suh Sim (DAP-Seputeh).

Kok had wanted to know whether the government had exercised control over the Internet media with the use of the act without parliamentary approval.
