‘PM’ Nurul’s greatest challenge


An Indian business leader says that while she has the potential to rise to the pinnacle of power, Nurul, however, must be bold enough to step out of her father’s shadow.

KUALA LUMPUR: The future of Pakatan Rakyat hinges on its young leaders, who should be groomed to ensure that Malaysians continue to have a formidable and sound alternative.

In expressing this view, Malaysian Indian Business Association (Miba) president P Sivakumar singled out PKR vice-president and Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

He believes that Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s eldest child, now a 31-year-old mother of two, is made up of the right ingredients to steer the nation forward.

Despite her young age, Nurul had also managed to garner an enviable support-base within PKR, both here and in East Malaysia.

“She is a steely woman who has been forced to deal with situations well beyond her age since her father was sacked and jailed in 1998.

“She speaks the right language, with words like justice, freedom, democracy, equality and human rights. She voices for the weak and oppressed regardless of race, and mingles well with everyone.

“Nurul has the potential to rise up the ranks, perhaps to even become Malaysia’s first woman prime minister in the future,” he said.

Sivakumar also noted that Pakatan, like any other political coalition, was confronted with internal problems and its supremo Anwar’s reputation had been battered due to a slew of reasons.
