Hadi: UMNO’s anti-Anwar gathering proves political interest

(HarakahDaily) – KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 15: PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang said a small gathering organised by UMNO recently to demand that Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim give the police a sample of his DNA in the ongoing sodomy trial only proved the case’s political motivation.

Hadi said the issue was deliberately played by UMNO in preparation for the coming general election this year.

“The gathering clearly shows that that the case is a political case created not based on reality but political interest for the next general election,” he told press conference at the parliament lobby yesterday.
 
Earlier, some 50 people participated, claiming to represent 30 non-governmental organisations, gathered at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Among their demands were for Anwar to surrender a sample of his DNA to facilitate the sodomy case, following the trial’s decision to expunge all DNA-related evidences after the defence cast doubts on the manner the DNA was collected. The trial would now have to depend solely on the claims by the accuser Saiful Bukhari.

Meanwhile, in a tit-for-tat move, PKR has launched its own ‘DNA’ campaign.
