Senior Sarawak cop being sued for rape

A young native girl from Kapit, who claimed to have been continuously raped while working as a maid, is now seeking retribution.

(Free Malaysia Today) – A 26-year-old woman from Kapit is set to sue a senior police officer whom she alleged had raped her while she was working with him as a maid, resulting in her giving birth to a baby girl.

She also alleged that she was “confined” by the police officer.

She is claiming damages, the return of her baby girl whom she claimed was “unlawfully seized” after she gave birth on Jan 17, 2010, in Sibu.

The woman and her father, a 50-year-old farmer who sought the assistance of PKR lawyers, will file the suit “very, very soon”.

“All papers including the affidavits are ready to be filed in Kuching,” said Voon Shiak Ni, vice-chairman of PKR Wanita.

According to Voon, the woman and the father have expressed disappointment with the investigations carried out by the police after they lodged two reports last year, one in Kapit on May 3, and the second on May 8 in Sibu.

On June 12 last year, the daughter and the father wrote a letter to Sibu central police station with copies sent to the Bukit Aman police headquarters and the Attorney-General’s office in Kuala Lumpur.

They received a reply on July 19 stating that the case was being investigated.

The letter also said that the file had been forwarded to the police headquarters in Kuching.

“They are demanding the status of the investigations, and want to know whether disciplinary action has been taken against the officer,” Voon said, adding that it is a year since the first report was lodged.

Abused and exploited

Said Voon: “As the case involves not an ordinary citizen, but a personnel in uniform, the standard of conduct to be expected of him is higher.

“The case is serious. The girl was raped, sexually abused and exploited while in the employ of the officer as his family’s maid and made to be a sex-slave for him.

“Eventually the girl became pregnant and delivered a baby at a medical centre in Sibu.

“Medical expenses were paid by the officer and the baby girl was whisked away by the officer and his family.

“The whereabouts of the baby have not been known to her since then,” said Voon, who is a lawyer herself.

According to Voon, the girl was also forced, against her will, to register a marriage with a relative of the officer.
