Wee lends voice to ‘give DNA’ choir

The former PKR man and now independent MP says this will be a golden opportunity for Anwar to prove his conspiracy theory.

(Free Malaysia Today) – Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong has lent his voice to the growing chorus of calls for Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to submit his DNA sample to the High Court.

In his parliamentary speech on Tuesday, the former PKR leader referred to the purported secret correspondence, revealed by WikiLeaks, between Singapore’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and US that Anwar had “walked into a trap”.

“This could be a lie or part of the conspiracy theory against the Permatang Pauh MP (Anwar).

“Therefore Anwar should take this golden opportunity to put an end to the sodomy charge against him by providing his DNA. A mismatch will lend further support to the conspiracy theory,” he said.

Anwar has refused to provide a new DNA sample after the High Court ruled last week that the samples obtained from three items – a toothbrush, towel and mineral water bottle – in his detention cell without his consent was inadmissible.

Last Friday, lead prosecutor Solicitor-General II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abidin applied for the court to compel Anwar, under the Evidence Act, to provide his DNA for profiling.

Anwar has slammed this application as “frivolous” and “a political game”.

Certain NGOs and politicians have since lambasted him for appearing to rise above the law by refusing to cooperate with the court.

Meanwhile, Wee also took a swipe at his former party PKR over its Key Performance Index (KPI) audit report.

Little Napoleans

The report by supreme council member Nik Mahmood Nik Hassan alleged that seven MPs, including PKR deputy president, Azmin Ali, had been deemed as “non-performing”.

“According to an FMT report the independent MPs left PKR because we also failed the KPI standards. It is obvious that the KPI was purely political and used to target those who refused to be associated with the little Napoleans,” he said.

“Let me clarify that we left PKR because we reached a point where we could no longer accept the leadership’s conduct which was full of double-standard, insincerity and without a vision for the country’s future,” he added.

The MPs who quit PKR last year were Tan Tee Beng (Nibong Tebal), Zahrain Mohamed Hashim (Bayan Baru), Zulkifli Nordin (Kulim-Bandar Baharu) and Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri (Bagan Serai).

Wee also suggested that PKR start off its next KPI audit with Anwar before attempting to assess the performance of anyone else outside the party.

However, Anwar and other PKR MPs had denied the existence of such a report.
