Umi Hafilda Files RM100 Million Suit Against Ex Business Partner, Malaysiakini


(Bernama) – KUALA LUMPUR — Businesswoman Umi Hafilda Ali filed a RM100 million defamation suit at the High Court here on Thursday against her former business partner and news portal Malaysiakini.

Umi, 43, filed the suit through the law firm Sahrihan & Hamdan at the Civil High Court registry and named Nor Azman Abdullah @ Baginda Minda as the first defendant and Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, which operates the news portal, as the second defendant.

In her affidvait, she claimed the first defendant in an interview held at Parliament’s lobby had uttered words that were defamatory of her, among others that she was a woman of loose morals, and that the second defendant had negligently published an article on the defamatory words used against her on the www.malaysiakini.com portal on Tuesday (March 15).

Besides the RM100 million in damages and other relief deemed fit by the court, she is also seeking an injunction to prevent the two defendants from continuing to defame her
