Karpal says Zaid needs crash course in English

(The Star) – PETALING JAYA: Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim should seriously consider a crash course in the English language, said DAP chairman Karpal Singh.

Karpal said he was surprised and amazed that Zaid had over the weekend lodged a police report against his statement that the Kita president should know the bounds and parameters of the law of contempt and “not fish in troubled waters”.

Karpal was also reported to have said that for it was a “deadly risk and the consequences can be equally deadly.

“It is obvious to one having even the rudiments of the English language at hand that my reference to Zaid fishing in troubled waters refers to the law of contempt being defied and the risk and consequences of committing contempt of court could, as a consequence, make one liable to a fine or imprisonment.

“After all, Justice Mohamed Zabidin Mohd Diah has reminded in open court that anyone committing an act of contempt in the ongoing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim trial will face the music,” he said in a statement here on Monday.

Karpal said he would advise Zaid not to make frivolous police reports.

“The police should be left to use their previous time in activities in the interests of the people,” he said.

On Saturday, Zaid had lodged a police report in Kota Baru, claiming that Karpal had threatened him following his statements urging Anwar to provide his (Anwar’s) DNA samples.

He had said Karpal’s statement, published in several news portals, contained “serious threats to his safety.”
