Prove your claims, Hisham dares accusers

(The Star) – KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein dared those who accuse him of having a hand in the sex video scandal that implicated a high-profile politician to prove their allegations.

“If there is anything you want to allege, you must prove it.

“I want to challenge those who point fingers, especially at me, to prove their claims,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.

Hishammuddin said the allegations were hurled to distract people from the issue and to create confusion.

“We (the police and the ministry) are not going to sit still. We are not going to let them play their politics. We are just going to do our job,” he said.

Hishammuddin added that he would consider suing Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to defend the honour of the police who have been accused of being involved in a conspiracy over the sex video.

Regarding a claim posted in a blog that the police had invited Sungai Petani MP Datuk Johari Abdul to view the video, Hishammuddin said: “As far as the police are concerned, there is no such thing.”

He also urged the media to be fair to Anwar and not let the matter be a trial in public.

“Do not pressure anyone. The police report on the sex video was only made yesterday (Tuesday). Let the police investigate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Umno leaders have moved to distance the party from the men who had exposed the sex tape.

An online portal quoted Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz as saying the Datuk Trio were doing it in their own capacity.

“We are a party of three million members. If one or two use their individual rights to pursue this, there is nothing we can do,” he said.
