Perkasa to reshuffle leadership as trouble speculation mount

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 — Perkasa will reshuffle its leadership amid speculation that internal problems have caused its youth and women’s wing chiefs to resign.
Outspoken Perkasa Youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah will hold a press conference this evening where it is rumoured that he will announce his resignation from the right-wing Malay NGO.
“This reshuffle is a normal procedure. Don’t speculate,” President Datuk Ibrahim Ali said in an SMS to The Malaysian Insider.
The Malaysian Insider reported this morning the Arman quit rumour, following in the footsteps Wiranita chief Raihan Sulaiman Palestine whose resignation last month has yet to be accepted by Ibrahim.
When contacted last night, Raihan said that her decision was based on personal reasons and denied that it was due to internal problems with Perkasa.
However, Arman’ — who refused to confirm or deny quit rumours when contacted repeatedly — exit will be a body blow the influential organisation backed by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Ibrahim also explained that Perkasa was reshuffling its national and state leaderships to strengthen the organisation.
“As Perkasa was set up as an NGO and will remain an NGO forever, it will require a lot of sacrifice that must be made by all leaders in terms of time and finance,” said the Pasir Mas MP, in an apparent rebuke to those who may resign their leadership posts.
