Dominique Ng in Three Cornered Fight in Padungan

(Bernama) – Incumbent Dominique Ng Kim Ho is defending Padungan as an Independent against Wong King Wei of the DAP and Sim Kiang Chiok of Barisan Nasional.

Ng, 50, who won the seat as a PKR candidate, resigned from the party yesterday after he was dropped by the PKR leadership.

Another disaffected former PKR member Soo Lina, 52, is standing as an Independent in Batu Lintang, facing BN’s Sih Hua Tong and See Chee How of PKR.

In Pending, it is a straight fight between incumbent Violet Yong Wui Wui of the DAP and BN’s Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, a cardiologist.

The announcement for the Padungan seat was delayed for more than an hour after the DAP protested Ng’s use of his first name “Dominique” on the ballot paper.  Sih, when approached by reporters, said he was optimistic about his chances of recapturing Batu Lintang for BN but expected a tough fight.

“Although we know that the ground support for BN has been growing, we are not going to take it easy. We will go all out in the battle,” he added.

The nomination for the three seats at the Kuching City South Council building went smoothly without incident.

Nonetheless a member of Malaysian Election Observers Network, Ong Boon Keong, complained that the Election Commission had refrained members of the public from making any protest during the one-hour objection period.

“This is unfair and I will write a complaint letter to EC,” he told reporters.
