Eight Immigration officers charged with graft
SHAH ALAM, April 7 — Eight Immigration officers were charged in three separate cases at Sessions Court here today with obtaining bribes of more than RM100,000 to allow Indonesian immigrants into the country.
The Selangor Immigration officers based in Port Klang, who were in their 20s and 30s, were charged under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
All eight pleaded not guilty.
The officers, including a woman, each face imprisonment of not more than 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) charged the Immigration officers with receiving the bribes last year to facilitate the entry of Indonesian ferry passengers to Malaysia without fulfilling entry conditions.
