Selangor palace suspends Kong Choy’s ‘datukship’

(The Malaysian Insider) – SHAH ALAM, April 10 — The Selangor Ruler has suspended Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy’s “Datuk” title, pending the outcome of the former transport minister’s trial in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) case.

The Star’s website reported that Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has also revoked the “datukship” of Ekran Bhd’s former executive chairman, Tan Sri Dr Ting Pek Khiing, who was declared bankrupt by the Insolvency Department last October 29.

State secretary Datuk Khusrin Munawi said in a statement today that the charges against Chan were serious as it entailed the country and public interest.

The title will be permanently revoked if Chan is found guilty but will be returned if it is proven otherwise, he added.

Chan received the title from the Sultan in 2003.

The former transport minister pleaded not guilty last February to three counts of cheating over the PKFZ scandal.
