‘Snap candidates should withdraw’

KUCHING: Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian has urged Sarawak National Party (Snap) to withdraw its candidates in constituencies where its campaign are ‘not making any headway.’
Bian said he heard that many of the Snap candidates were struggling due to limited resources or lack of voter support.
“I heard many of them are not making any headway. If this is the case, I advise them to withdraw and throw their support to Pakatan Rakyat candidates.
“After all our aim is to topple this government and bring change to Sarawak.
“The Barisan Nasional state government is our enemy and we should pool all our resources to defeat them,” he told FMT yesterday.
He added that although it may be too late in the day for the Snap candidates to withdraw – yesterday was the last day for withdrawals, Snap can nevertheless tell the voters to back PKR.
Bian said if the opposition could give BN a one-to-one fight, especially in the Dayak majority constituencies, then there was a “likelihood that we can defeat the BN candidates”.
“Therefore, I earnestly beg Snap candidates to reconsider my appeal,” Bian said.
Snap is contesting in 27 Dayak-majority seats following failed negotiations between itself and PKR.
In almost all these constituencies Snap and PKR are facing each other apart from contesting against BN, independent and Parti Cinta Malaysia candidates.
PKR picking up momentum
Touching on his own campaign, Bian said that he has been going around villages which were near the Ba’kelalan township.
“I will be moving into the interior fron Sunday. On the whole, my campaign is going smoothly,” he said.
Although he is the favourite to win the Ba’Kelalan seat, Bian declined to comment on his chances except to say that he and his campaigners are working very hard to win over the hearts and minds of the voters.
There are more than 6,000 voters in this constituency.
