Think of creative solution before creating more posts: Najib

(Bernama) – SUBANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razakwants the civil service to think creatively to improve their service without resorting to creating more posts.

He said additional posts should only be created after exhausting all other options.

Apart from minimising bureaucratic red tapes, he said, posts cannot be created at will because it involved huge expenditure.

“Let’s think creatively first and then make the best decision because we want a civil service that is efficient and productive.

“We cannot go on creating posts, otherwise we would have a huge bureaucracy and this requires a huge expenditure; we should not spend the people’s money in a wayward manner,” he said when asked on the request by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for an additional of 800 officers.

Earlier, Najib launched the 1Malaysia Cardiff City Junior Football League at the Rubber Research Centre, Sungai Buloh, near here today.

MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Zakaria Jaafar said yesterday that the commission needed the additional officers to strengthen its security surveillance nationwide.

Najib said although he did not normally comment on requests by government agencies, he would nevertheless look into MACC’s request and that if it was reasonable, the government had no problem approving it.

“But maybe we should first look at what we can do or change, whether we can actually do what we want to do by utilising our existing strength.

“We should also look at whether we can redeploy our existing manpower. This creative way of doing things, if implemented, can save the government a lot of money.

“If all these options prove to be unsuccessful, then we can consider employing more people,” he said. — BERNAMA
