Many in Opposition objected to Anwar’s September 16 plan

(NST) – The state assembly was told Wednesday one of the reasons why Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s ‘September 16’ plan to wrest control of Putrajaya through defections of Barisan Nasional (BN) parliamentarians, had failed was because many of Pakatan’s own representatives objected to it.

Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP-Sitiawan) said however that the plan was close to becoming a reality, claiming that 45 BN representatives had stated interest to join the opposition pact.

“I attended a meeting on the September 19 plan and I objected to it because I believe in democracy and not in power grab,” he said when interjecting Tan Sri Mohd Tajol Rosli Ghazali (BN-Pengkalan Hulu) who was debating the motion of thanks on the speech of the Regent of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah.

Tajol Rosli had earlier asked who had actually planned a power grab first, in an apparent reference to the opposition’s criticism that the BN had resorted to grabbing power in Perak in 2009.

While saying that the opposition “should not act like a kettle calling the pot black,” Tajol Rosli said the opposition to stop blaming the BN for Pakatan’s downfall in Perak.

Pakatan lost its majority in the state assembly when three assemblyman left the pact and declared themselves BN-friendly independents.
