Police mulling probe into RPK’s latest claims
(The Malay Mail) – Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said investigations into claims made by renegade blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin will be instituted only if there was a police report lodged on the issue.
Raja Petra had asked for police to re-launch their investigation into his statutory declaration made on June 18, 2008 to ‘find the truth” about murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2007.
“So far no one has lodged a police report on this issue and if there is, we will investigate. First, we will have view what Raja Petra’s said his latest statement and his statutory declaration to verify if he had committed an offence,” Ismail said. “We have to get solid facts and proof before we can take any action.”
Ismail said this after witnessing the handing over ceremony of outgoing Deputy-Inspector General of Police Datuk Hussin Ismail who retired from the force today. Hussin was replaced by Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar who was former Internal Security and Public Order department director.
On TV3’s Buletin Utama last night (Wednesday night) Raja Petra claimed the information regarding the murder was received from several individuals, who wanted to put pressure and prevent then Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from assuming the nation’s top post.
In a posting this morning, the founder and editor of Malaysia Today dismissed speculations on the internet that he was not the one who appeared on TV3’s Buletin Utama and made it clear it was no ‘look-a-like’.
On his posting, Raja Petra wrote: “Maybe I need that storm so the story of my statutory declaration can be brought back to focus and corrected.”
He said all these years, mainstream media and pro-UMNO blogs and websites called him a ‘liar’ for signing an SD which linked Najib with the murder of the Mongolian model in 2007.
Raja Petra said he made an allegation about Lt Kol Azmi Zainal Abidin, a military officer, whom he claimed had a confidential report regarding Altantuya’s demise at the time she was murdered. The confidential military report, including its entire file, Raja Petra wrote, apparently no longer exists.
One of the individuals alleged to be involved in the practice, blogger Din Merican, had written a statement saying there was no basis for Raja Petra linking him in the matter, but did not deny Raja Petra called him to seek clarification from opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, regarding reliability of a military officer.
