Police complete probe on sex tape, say watch owner unimportant

By The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — Police have wrapped up their investigations into the screening of a sex tape featuring a man who allegedly resembles Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, revealing today that an Omega watch is not central to the case.

The 21-minute tape was shown to a group of journalists by a mysterious “Datuk T” on March 21. Datuk T was later revealed as former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer Datuk Shuib Lazim.

Deputy CID chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police had investigated the case under the Penal Code for the distribution of obscene material and the investigation papers would be sent to the Attorney-General’s (AG) Chambers soon.

“It’s up to the AG to take action. If we need to re-investigate anything, we will do so,” he was quoted as saying by state news agency Bernama.

The senior police officer also dismissed the issue about an Omega watch that was allegedly recovered from the scene where the alleged sex act had taken place.

“The identity of the watch’s owner is not an issue. What is important in our investigation is who is responsible for screening the video,” he added.

Anwar has denied being in the video and had said his Omega watch is in the possession of his wife, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The PKR de facto leader has lodged a police report denying that he was the man in the sex tape.

The black-and-white video was allegedly recorded on February 21 at a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur.
