Putrajaya confirms Murugiah’s last day tomorrow

(The Malaysian Insider) – KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — The government has confirmed that Datuk T. Murugiah’s tenure as a Senator and as a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department expires tomorrow.

The Malaysian Insider reported last week that the 47-year-old politician had already been informed that his senatorship would not be extended as MIC president Datuk G. Palanivel had instituted a new system to select senators from the party.

Murugiah was appointed as a senator on April 19, 2008 and as a deputy minister on April 10, 2009 when he was with the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) as its youth chief. He joined the MIC last year.

“On behalf of the government, I would like to take this opportunity to express appreciation and thanks to YB Senator Datuk Murugiah a/l Thopasamy for his contribution and service as a member of the Dewan Negara and a deputy minister,” Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan said in a statement published by Bernama online.
