PM: Govt has nothing to do with ‘1Melayu, 1Bumi’ call

(Bernama) – SERDANG: The Government has nothing to do with the ‘1Melayu, 1Bumi’ movement proposed in a Utusan Malaysia report, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

“That’s the personal opinion of the writer. As for the Government, we have a very clear concept which we will continue to work on.

“And as for the Malays, it is most important that they support Umno if they want to be politically united,” he told reporters after addressing a gathering of farmers, breeders and fishermen, here Friday.

Utusan Malaysia assistant editor-in-chief Datuk Zaini Hassan, in his Cuit column two days ago, said the DAP had managed to unite the Chinese politically and, in his opinion, the Malays should launch the ‘1Melayu, 1Bumi’ unity movement.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said proposed ‘1Melayu, 1Bumi’ movement would be bad for the country.

“I hope it doesn’t happen. It’s very bad for Malaysia.

“If we go ahead with this, there will be a two-party system in politics. If one is Malay-dominated and the other is Chinese-dominated, it will be a disaster for this country,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur after launching the Perdana Global Peace Foundation and Jelajah Keamanan (Peace Tour) 2011. – Bernama
