KUALA LUMPUR, 25 APRIL, 2011: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said it is important to build the spirit unity and oneness of all races by sitting down and working together.

Commenting on Utusan Malaysia’s call for ‘1Melayu, 1Bumi’ movement, he said there is no need for such movement as he sees the spirit of every race in the country is still apparent.

He cited the recent Sarawak state election where the Chinese communities are inclined towards supporting the Opposition as they want exclude themselves from the mainstream and refuse to unite under the same policy.

As a leader, he said, he doesn’t feel that the Chinese vote swing will improve the situation but the government is unable to stop them from supporting the Opposition.

He said these racial spirits has somewhat become a trend and cannot be stopped as it is within every Malaysian’s right though the government do not encourage such things.

“Tomorrow there will be 1 India, then 1 Chinese, 1 Mat Salleh… but for me, that is manifestation that has emerged out of worry, a reaction form a trend and new politics,” said Muhyiddin.
