Unseen hands using LDP, says Musa’s man

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Musa Aman’s office has accused the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of allowing itself to be manipulated by “unseen forces” to rebel against the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.

Musa’s political secretary, Jimmy Wong, said yesterday that he was surprised by recent criticisms of the chief minister by LDP officials.

In a statement released yesterday, he said it appeared that “unseen forces” with a “selfish agenda” were trying to cast a bad light on Musa and were using LDP to do so.

The apparent revolt continues to dominate the front pages of local newspapers.

Wong attacked LDP deputy president Chin Su Phin for his analysis of the Sarawak election results in which he drew a parallel between Musa and his Sarawak counterpart, Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Chin said voters decided to punish the Chinese-based Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) for its continuous support of Taib, adding that Sabah BN faced a similar leadership issue. He urged the prime minister to make changes in the BN leadership of both states.

Wong said Chin’s analysis was designed to undermine Musa’s leadership.

“Chin has always been a contractor and was never known to have any political ambition,” he said. “Hence, it is rather questionable for him to attack Musa.”

He said Chin had wrongly blamed Taib and his party, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), for SUPP’s losses. “It is like attributing LDP losses to Umno or PBS.”

Wong predicted that LDP would fall like SUPP for doing things that upset the Chinese community.
