PKR snubs new Pakatan-SNAP alliance
(The Malaysian Insider) – Sarawak DAP failed today to persuade its Pakatan Rakyat (PR) partner to agree to draw SNAP into the state opposition pact but met with resistance from PKR.
State DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen, said the merger issue was raised at PR meeting in Kuching earlier today but was dropped quickly as there was no headway.
“PKR said they had reservations,” the lawyer told The Malaysian Insider over the phone.
PAS, which is also a part of the state PR pact despite failing to win a single seat in the recently-concluded state polls, was unrepresented at the meeting, Chong said.
The Kota Sentosa assemblyman added PKR was still “sore” about what SNAP did in the run-up to the April 17 election, because a large number of Sarawak PKR members had jumped over to SNAP back then.
But Chong said he was optimistic PKR would relent and see the merger will bring mutual benefits to all parties as they brace themselves for the next national elections, expected to be called anytime from August to early next year.
