NGO chief Mohamed Ghani arrested
(The Star) – GEORGE TOWN: Pertubuhan Suara Anak-anak Malaysia chairman Mohamed Ghani Abd Jiman was arrested outside the Penang legislative assembly building Tuesday.
Ghani and five of his supporters had wanted to hand a memorandum to Speaker Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain and Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas but were prevented by security personnel.
The memorandum touches on several issues including the demolition of Malay hawker stalls.
An irked Ghani then shook the gates of the assembly building and tried to climb over it while challenging the police to arrest him.
He called Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen “pondan” for refusing to let him in.
He later passed the memorandum to an official before being taken away in a police van at about 1.10pm.
The police had earlier warned the group, including former PKR Wanita chief Aminah Abdullah, to disperse.
The state assembly sitting begins today and is expected to end next Tuesday.
