DAP calls Utusan’s Christian Malaysia report a ‘dangerous lie’

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — The DAP has denied an Utusan Malaysia article which claimed the party was conspiring with Christian leaders to take over Putrajaya and abolish Islam as the country’s official religion.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today that such a blatant lie directly contradicted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1 Malaysia concept.

“Utusan wants to set 1 Malaysia on fire… it is the most evil (jahat) and dangerous element in our country right now,” he said.

Lim (picture) said he had already asked party leaders to lodge a police report on the matter. It is understood Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng will lodge a report in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

“How can a lie be on the front page of a newspaper?” asked the Penang Chief Minister.

“These are the political games of desperados,” said Guan Eng, adding that “in order to fish for more votes, they (Umno) are willing to do anything”.

He said the accusations against the DAP were not new, pointing out that he himself had been Utusan’s target numerous times.

“One day they will accuse me of not being a Malaysian, that I was born outside the country… just like how some have accused (US President Barack) Obama,” he said.

“They had even accused me of wanting to replace the Agong. How can I ever want to be the Agong… they’ve never apologised to me for all their lies,” said Guan eng.

DAP Komtar state assemblyman Ng Wei Aik stressed that the party had always upheld Islam as the official religion of the country, and also recognised the special rights of the Malays and Bumiputeras.

“This is a clear sign that Utusan Malaysia and, by extension, Barisan Nasional are bankrupt of ideas and must now resort to slandering, spinning and segregating the people of Malaysia.

“The Utusan front page dated the 7th of May 2011 clearly writes ‘Kristian Agama Rasmi?’ to achieve its ultimate objective, that is to strike fear into the Malay-Muslim populace of Malaysia in order to win back support not by earning it, but by scaring the people into submission,” Ng said.

The DAP man pointed out that this form of slandering was not new, and that a similar tactic had been employed by Umno during the 1990 general election.

“During the 1990 general election, the aura of a ‘Christian takeover’ was played in order to discredit Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, then from Semangat 46.
