MCLM Supports the Penang Chief Minister’s Call for Peace

Recently, in his Vesak message, the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, called on all Malaysians to unite for peace irrespective of race and beliefs. He urged them to pray for “truth to prevail and for peace to be maintained in Malaysia.”

He was also quoted as saying, “It is not enough for Malaysians to just ask for peace, prosperity and good governance alone in their prayers. We must also stand together to speak out against hatred, unequivocally abhor extremists and condemn violence.”

The Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM) is in complete agreement with the Chief Minister’s stand.

As we voice our support for his call for peace, we ask all reasonable and peace-loving Malaysians to speak out against the bigotry, hatred and threats of violence that are inundating the public sphere and shaping public discourse.

For the love of our beautiful nation and its beautiful people, do not allow a handful of extremists to destroy the very fabric of our society.

Haris Ibrahim

President

Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement
