Sabah PKR still in search of a leader

A former Umno leader is among the names being tossed to take over Sabah PKR.

(Free Malaysia Today) – Discord within Sabah PKR continues to frustrate efforts to install a local as party leader in Sabah, a post now held temporarily by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Azizah took over as the Sabah interim chief on Feb 6, replacing Pajudin Nordin who quit the party last year and joined Umno after falling out of favour with division chiefs barely a month after he was appointed.

After forming a Presidential Council to run the party in Sabah after the embarrassing exit of Pajudin, she promised a new Sabah PKR chief by April this year.

However, in a brief statement issued here on Monday, the Sabah PKR secretariat while acknowledging that Azizah is still the interim chairperson, announced on Sunday the appointment of three deputies and secretary of the Sabah state PKR.

The three deputies named are division chairpersons Christina Liew (Kota Kinabalu), James Ghani (Papar) and Mustapha Tambuyong (Kinabatangan) and Supreme Council member Dr Roland Chia as secretary.

According to a senior Sabah PKR leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disagreement between factions within the party remain and is stalling efforts to find a consensus candidate who can bring them all together.

Among those who are said to be contenders for the post are three former chiefs – Awang Tengah, Ansari Abdullah and Thamrin Jaini.
