Veteran DAP Leaders Must Accept State, Federal Awards
(Bernama) — A DAP delegate today proposed that veteran DAP leaders make a paradigm shift and accept state or federal awards.
Sekinchan state assemblyman Ng Suee Lim said such changes were needed to show that DAP respected the royalty.
“The time has come for DAP veteran leaders like Karpal Singh and Dr Chen Man Hin…receive awards from rulers,” he said when debating the Central Working Committee’s report during the 2012 DAP Conference here Sunday.
He said reasons like DAP leaders should not receive any awards when they are serving in the party, should be changed.
Ng also alleged that there were DAP leaders were competing among each other to offer allocations to their respective constituencies to seek support from residents.
He said it was an unhealthy practice because it would seem like money was being used to buy support and such actions must be abolished from the party.
Meanwhile, DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng when winding up speech on the Central Working Committee report said Pakatan Rakyat need to win 18 or one third of the 56 Parliament seats in Sabah and Sarawak to capture Putrajaya.
Lim urged DAP leaders to work hard and try to gain at least 30 percent support of the Malays in their respective constituencies.
In 2008, the support of the Malays towards the DAP government in Penang was 30 percent but has since increased to 40 percent, he said.
The DAP conference was attended by 749 delegates and 349 observers.
