PAS: Hasan Ali sacking not influenced by PKR, DAP

(The Malaysian Insider) – PAS has denied that its Pakatan Rakyat (PR) partners PKR and DAP had pressured it into sacking renegade leader Datuk Dr Hasan Ali from the party, Sinar Harian reported today.

The Malay daily quoted PAS leaders Salahuddin Ayub and Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as saying neither PKR nor DAP had influenced its decision.

“No, no. The issue of us being influenced by PKR or DAP does not even arise.

“We stand on the facts of the case, not follow what others say,” Salahuddin, the party’s vice-president, reportedly told the newspaper.

The PAS central working committee sacked Hasan as a party member yesterday for breaching party discipline after he urged supporters to avoid a rally in support of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as his sodomy trial verdict was handed down.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had prior to that expressed the party’s support for the rally.

In response, Hasan immediately blamed Anwar for his sacking from PAS.

The Selangor lawmaker admitted it was likely due to his remarks about the opposition that got him the boot from the Islamist party, which is part of the state’s ruling PR pact.
