Survey: Najib more capable leader than Anwar

(Malaysiakini) – A survey carried out by Universiti Malaya late last year has found that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is the preferable leader compared to Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

While a large portion of the 2,559 people surveyed nationwide by the UM Centre of Democracy and Election (Umcedel) were “unsure”, Najib still came up trumps in several categories of the survey.

Compared to Anwar, more people felt that Najib was a more capable leader in terms of managing the country’s economy, with a total 40 percent agreeing that the prime minister is better.

Conversely only 33 percent of those surveyed, from October to December 2011, agreed that Anwar was more capable in managing the economy.

In terms of the video released by the trio calling themselves ‘Datuk T’ purportedly of Anwar having sex with a woman, 35 percent of the respondents do not believe the man in the video is Anwar.

However, 46 percent of the respondents remain undecided while 20 percent believe it is Anwar.

Regardless, 38 percent of those surveyed feel that the publicity given to the sex video has affected Anwar’s credibility, while the rest are split between feeling the video has no affect, or are unsure.

The bulk of respondents who believe the man in the video is the PKR leader, and that the video is damaging to him, are Malays.
