Cops still probing murder of RPK’s whistleblower

(Malaysiakini) – Police today refuted claims by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin that they had ruled businessman Patrick Wong’s death was due to an accidental fall.

“The police rebuts the insinuation that we have ruled Patrick Wong’s death as an accidental death from the very beginning.”

“The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The case is not closed and investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

He also appealed to members of the public who have information on the matter to come forward and assist in their investigations.

Bakri was responding to a posting on the blog Malaysia Today entitled “Episode 2: The Murder of a Whistleblower” by the self-exiled blogger on Feb 8.

malaysia today website 240707In the posting, Raja Petra said Wong was found dead soon after he promised the former “a dossier” of evidence on Pakatan Rakyat’s alleged misappropriation in the sand industry in Selangor in October 2009.

“His family (and all his friends, I included) believe it was an assassination carried out by hired killers. The police say it was an ‘innocent’ robbery.”

“The medical evidence shows he was strangled and beaten to death (he was in a coma for a while before he died).”

“The police say he died ‘accidentally’ when he fell off the balcony while trying to escape the ‘robbers’,” he posted.
