Guan Eng: We cannot simply give Bakri seat to Jui Meng

(The Star) – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has rejected Johor PKR chief Datuk Chua Jui Meng‘s suggestion that the DAP give way for him to contest in the Bakri parliamentary seat in the general election, major Chinese newspapers reported.

Sin Chew Daily quoted Lim as saying that the party would not offer the Bakri seat to PKR as it belonged to the DAP.

“We won it in the last general election.

“How can we simply agree to exchange the seats? I will not give way,” Lim said.

China Press quoted Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa of DAP as saying that party leaders should listen to the wishes of the locals in the area before deciding on the candidate for Bakri.

Er hinted that Chua had left Bakri several years ago and he should contest in a “bigger area”.

The daily reported that there was speculation that PKR and DAP wanted to contest for the seat.
