Do not interfere in Islamic affairs, PAS tells Karpal

(Bernama) — PAS has urged DAP chairman Karpal Singh not to interfere in Islamic affairs, particularly in efforts to curb social ills which it claimed was widespread in the country.

Tanjung chairman Zaidi Abu Bakar said the party regretted Karpal’s recent statement criticising PAS Youth when the party said Valentine’s Day celebrations should be banned.

“Tanjung PAS neither wants him (Karpal) to meddle in affairs involving Muslims nor use human rights to oppose efforts by PAS Youth when it addresses social ills,” he told reporters here today.

He said PAS merely undertook responsibility to prevent Muslims from committing vice.

In the statement, Karpal was reported to have said that PAS’ stand could not be sustained because Valentine’s Day was generally accepted and celebrated in most countries.
