Give names of ‘prostitute’ journalists, Hew told

(The Star) – A MEDIA association wants DAP election publicity chief Hew Kuan Yau, who labelled journalists “prostitutes”, to provide the identities of the reporters he was referring to, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

Negri Sembilan Chinese Newspaper Journalists Association said in a statement that the DAP should take action against Hew and the party’s disciplinary committee chairman Tan Kok Wai if they failed to provide evidence.

The association regretted that other DAP leaders did not make their stand clear on Hew and Tan’s derogatory remarks.

It was reported that when Hew’s remark became public, the party’s disciplinary committee chairman Tan Kok Wai said no action would be taken against him as he was merely being truthful.

Last Friday, Hew posted on his Facebook: “I apologise for causing controversy by telling the truth.”

Negri Sembilan DAP chairman Anthony Loke told China Press that Hew was making a personal statement and his remarks did not represent the party’s stand.

Loke said Hew should take responsibility for his statement and added that he had apologised.

“It is up to the public and the media whether to accept his apology,” said Loke.
