Court dismisses habeas corpus application of Saudi columnist


(The Star) – The High Court here has dismissed a habeas corpus application filed by Saudi Arabian newspaper columnist Hamza Kashgari Mohamad Najeeb against his arrest and detention.

High Court Judge (Appellate and Special Powers) Justice Rohana Yusuf made the decision after allowing the premiminary objection by the government.

Justice Rohana made the ruling in chambers after meeting both parties Wednesday.

On Feb 13, Hamza has filed the application to ascertain whether his detention here and deportation was unlawful.

He had named the Inspector-General of Police, Immigration Department director-general, Home Minister and Malaysian Government as respondents.
