No letters on exco posts yet, says Azizan

(NST) – Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said letters of offer and reappointments for state councillors for the 2012-2013 term had yet to be issued.

Azizan, although usually a media-friendly person, has been known to admonish reporters for asking sensitive matters on Kedah Pas.

But yesterday, when pressed for details on the two Pas  councillors’ refusal to be reappointed, the 70-year-old Kedah Pas commissioner gave a jocular response.

“There will be a surprise on Feb 28 (Tuesday). I have also not issued the letters of appointment. So, just wait,” he said  in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, when met after attending a ceramah in Pokok Sena near here on Wednesday night, said he was leaving it to Azizan to handle Kedah Pas matters.

“Azizan is the menteri besar, so let him handle it.”

Three Kedah state councillors from PKR also declined to comment on their two Pas colleagues’ alleged refusal to be reappointed.

A check with the state secretariat found that the swearing-in ceremony, to be graced by the sultan’s  Council of Regency chairman Datuk Seri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, would be held as scheduled.

However, it has yet to receive the list of councillors to be appointed.

Universiti Utara Malaysia School of Politics and International Studies lecturer Md Shukri Shuib said the infighting in Kedah Pas was inevitable since everyone viewed it as a chance to survive politically.

“So, it won’t be a surprise if the people would no longer want to support the state Pakatan Rakyat government in the next general election,” he said.
