Badrul: I was just helping woman and child

(THE STAR) – Dr Badrulamin Bahron, who has been accused of committing khalwat with a married woman, is sticking to his version of events he was merely helping a woman and her child settle into a hotel room.

The Selangor Government information chief said this after giving his statement to the Pahang Religious Affairs Department (JAIP) officers here yesterday.

Dr Badrulamin was accompanied by his wife Zumrah Husni and lawyers Mohamed Sazali Abdul Aziz, Mohamad Irfan Abdullah and Ahmad Nizam Hamid.

When asked if there were witnesses to support his claim, Dr Badrulamin replied that he had witnesses to the assault he allegedly suffered.

News reports had stated that a PKR leader was caught in a hotel room with another man’s wife in the wee hours of Saturday.

The woman’s husband, accompanied by some friends, allegedly stormed into the room.

The husband then alerted the religious authorities who arrived at the scene at 3.10am.

Dr Badrulamin said yesterday that he had considered taking a rest from party duties even before the Selangor Mentri Besar’s office issued a statement on Sunday, advising him to go on a month’s leave.

“Let me face it on my own,” said the PKR supreme council member. “I believe this was a plan to trap and embarrass me.”

In Shah Alam, the Selangor government said it would leave the matter to JAIP.

“He (Dr Badrulamin) need not explain anything to us,” said Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahaim after handing out RM100,000 to the Monfort Boys Town here yesterday.

“The matter is between him and the religious authority now.”
